From the beginning, the Unlocking Communities team has discussed opening a water filtration system factory. With the rise of filter sales over the past two years and the implementation of TaroWorks, the team is ready to scale the number of filters sold in Haiti. While importing filters has been satisfactory for Unlocking Communities’ work to date, customs fees, shipping delays, and the desire for locally made products have strengthened their drive to build a factory in Hinche, Haiti.

Unlocking Communities intends to break ground on the factory, named ECO H2O, in Summer 2022 on the 3-acre property in Hinche that has already been purchased and be fully operational by Winter 2022-23.

By the end of 2027, ECO H2O will manufacture over 350,000 water filtration systems leading to $105 million USD in economic savings impacting 1,750,000 lives. This will lead to the prevention of 382 million disposable water bottles entering the market. The manufacturing and sales of the filters will generate approximately $240,000 in net income through 2027.
